The first question I get asked by learner drivers is how much will it cost, how many driving lessons will I need and how soon will I be ready to take my test?
The answer is I don’t know, it really depends on a lot of factors.
- You may be a nervous driver, so will need more lessons than someone who isn’t
- If you have more lessons in a week, then you may pass sooner
- If you have had any previous experience driving a car, then this will certainly help when taking your driving lessons
Even if you have been riding about on a bicycle, you will be more aware of the roads and will have learnt the highway code, you will even know how to steer and change gear. Again, steering from playing video games, hand and eye co-ordination from playing sports, will help immensely.
DVLA studies show most students passing their test have had 42+ hours of professional tuition and have had an extra 10+ hours of private lessons.
So, if you book a block of lessons, you know you are going to have at least 10 hours of lesson booked in.
If you book these block lessons in advance, then it will only cost you £145 for 5 hours and only £280 for 10 hours.
If you have asked someone to accompany you who is not a driving instructor, you must ensure that they are over 21 years of age & have held a full licence for over 3 years.
From my own experience pupils who only have an hour a week can expect to be learning for approximately 18 months. Those that have more driving lessons, will learn a lot quicker. I Highly recommend a two-hour lesson or at least an hour and a half per week to help consolidate learning, especially if no private tuition is taking place.
Remember test fee’s do not include the use of the driving instructor’s car except for intensive courses of 20 hours or over.
I always recommend that I pick you up at least an hour before your test, depending on where you live.
Your practical test will cost £62.00 and your theory/hazard perception test will cost £23.
